EDIT to the Article Below: As of March 2008, this blog will no longer participate in receiving pay for advertised links unless the advertiser is willing to purchase links with the nofollow attribute in order to comply with the Google webmaster guidelines.

Writing posts as a publisher just got better. As you know there have been more companies offering publishing to bloggers, but since the blogosphere has caught onto the idea it’s become more competitive to find offers as more bloggers have learned of the opportunities.

If you haven’t yet looked into Bloggerwave it only took a matter of hours to have my blogs approved. Their dashboard is simple to use, and the requirements for the posts are easy to follow. The only downside I see at this point is the fact that there are not yet many offers, but that’s to be expected for a young site so one should certainly not hold that against them. They pay publishers through PayPal.

As a blogger you may want to consider adding their opportunity to your basket of potential earning power from your blogs. Their registration process is quick and easy as well, so you might want to jump over there right now to take a look. It could possibly be another way right for you to make more money blogging and working as a publisher.

I’ve seen the Apogee name in numerous places in recent times and I finally had the time to take a look at it and find out more about it. Apogee has grown to become one of the 25 largest Search Engine Marketing firms in the world, so I guess that explains why I’ve been seeing their name around much more.

They have their blog as well as their main site for ethical SEO strategies. One of their blog posts I found interesting covers some of the same information I’ve shared here in numerous posts.

You may recall in some of our prior posts here in our Blog Master Tools section we’ve talked about the importance of focusing on your blog post title tags to practice good seo. On Apogee’s blog they shared the importance of the title tags fueling Google’s ranking factors for your blogs. The title tags topped the list!

I know I’ve been guilty myself plenty of times when I’ve forgotten the importance of focusing on my keywords for my title tags. The drawback too if you create poor title tags is that you cannot change them once your blog posts are published, otherwise the page will end up as a dead page online, which is also not good for your blogs seo.

In short, never forget the importance of your title tags, and the keywords or key phrases you use to create them. We as bloggers always have to remember that we write for not only the human reader, but for robots too!

Once you receive incoming links to a blog post, long after you’ve written the post the link popularity continues to promote your blog for you! If done correctly, link popularity will bring you rewards twofold.

First and foremost, your readers will like your blog if the outgoing links from your blog post land on a relevant blog post along the same topic. Secondly, the search engines will also reward you for your relevant linking.

What’s relevant linking? You simply need to create enough of a connection using the same keywords or key phrases used in the other persons blog post which you linked to. This is very important.

Link popularity is an interesting topic, with many different viewpoints to learn from, and I encourage all bloggers to learn about link popularity! It’s also the reason you will enjoy being a member of Link and Blog Challenge. You can turn link popularity into a fun game to practice each day, and gain more links to your blog in the process! In fact, this blog post was inspired by yet another Link & Blog Challenge!

Blogging for Dollars?

Have you been blogging for dollars? Many bloggers have caught onto the opportunity for working as a publisher for companies such as PayPerPost, aka PPP because it’s an easy way to help support some of the expenses to keep your blogs floating!

While there are many other programs online that offer bloggers the opportunity to earn some money from publishing, I personally feel that PayPerPost from my experience has one of the best, if not the best program out there.

Some of the other ones that I’ve participated in have the potential to make more money from an offer, however where are the offers? Then there are other advertising companies that offer a simple $5.00 per published ad to the blogger, and one of which I made a nice sum from in 2006. However, toward the later part of last year and the early part of this year that other company never seems to have any offers except for the same ones over and over again! It became quite boring.

So, yes by now I’m sure you’ve figured out I’m getting paid for this post! But, to be frank with you I would not be posting this on my blog if I didn’t feel they were a good company to publish for!

So, how much money have you made from blogging for dollars through PayPerPost’s program? Before you answer that question, there is no wrong answer, and before you respond I’ll share how much I’ve made from publishing ads with PayPerPost. By the time you add up this advertisement as well as one other one I completed on one of my other blogs, I’ve only made a total of $300.00 and over 90% of that was earned last year.

There are many of you who have made a ton more than that with publishing advertisements. For me though, I’m quite particular about which ads I’ll take for my blogs. I really don’t want my blogs to look like a big advertising billboard, so that’s why I’m quite picky.

Speaking of picky, the advertisers as you know have also become pickier with which blog domains, page rank and Alexa rank their advertisements are published on, which I totally respect. Expenses for blog marketing have to be budgeted like any other business expense so again I certainly understand their need for being particular with where the money goes.

That also explains why I’ve not earned that much by being a postie! I only began blogging roughly a year ago and like many bloggers I began on a free domain, which is where my other two blogs are currently. Although I do have a goal to relocate those blogs to my own domain, it isn’t a pressing issue for my life at the moment but should be soon. That will then increase my opportunities for offers once the blog domain gains page rank and traffic.

One last point I nearly forgot! I’m supposed to state what my plans are for the money I made as a PayPerPost postie! Would it be safe to say you may have already guessed that I spent the money in that it is only $300.00? Yes, you’re right I did spend it nearly as fast as it came in. 2006 was a rough year at our household so those funds came in handy at a much needed time to provide for well – nothing fancy!

Blogging With WordPress

Some bloggers get confused by getting the two WordPress software platforms mixed up. I found that confusing in the past as well so I thought it would be of help to clarify the difference. They’re both great platforms and blogging with WordPress gets easier as you get more acquainted with their platform. You may be wondering; What is the difference with the two WordPress software platforms, and which one should you choose?

WordPress.com with the black logo, is the version of their platform which utilizes their domain. WordPress.org with the blue logo is the platform to install on your domain.

Some of the confusion comes from the fact that advertisements cannot be used on one WordPress platform, but can on the other. If you’re confused about which WordPress platform you can and cannot use for advertising, and which one you want for your blog then this post is for you!

It’s really fairly simple, but it’s easy enough to get confused. Just to clarify one more time, this should end any confusion you may have between the two so you can start blogging with WordPress:

  • If you only want a journal and you do not wish to monetize the blog then you may want to consider going with the basic WordPress version, which can be found at WordPress.com. This is the version using their domain. Many bloggers also prefer Blogger over WordPress when comparing the benefits of a free domain platform.
  • If your goal is to bring in some cash from publishing advertisements then you will want to use the WordPress platform from WordPress.org to install on your own domain. The platform you select for use on your own domain will provide you with all the freedom you need in order to advertise and take on tasks as a publisher.

Do you have a blog on a free domain and want to transfer to your own domain? You may want to read our two part article, which will help you with that task. At first you may think you should delete the blog you move from the free domain to your own, but after you read this two part article you may learn why you may not want to do that, and why you may want to only delete a part of each old post.

Part one of the article provides you with some incentives to creating your blog on your own domain. Part two of the article then covers some steps for how to go about moving your blog posts and why you may not want to delete your old blog.

If you haven’t used their platform before now, you should now be ready to start blogging with WordPress! :)

Blogging Mentor

Everyone has a time in their life when they need a mentor, but there are also those who refuse to allow themselves to be mentored by anyone, which is of course very sad.

For bloggers, it really is no different. Every blogger who wishes to succeed in the long run should consider having a blogging mentor. Does that mean that the blogger should have just one person who mentors them? No, not really. A blogging mentor can also be numerous individuals who you converse with to discuss ideas. In the process you may even become a mentor for the person who is actually one for you, or benefit a group of other bloggers.

Mentoring is one strength, which makes a blogging community a place where bloggers can really grow as they mentor one another. The old saying, “Birds of a feather should stick together.” comes to mind. Mentors need to be like-minded individuals sharing a common interest. Why? Because others may not be able to relate to why you have the interest and passion for blogging! In fact, if you attempt to discuss your blogging passion with some family members or friends who do not share the same interest, you may find yourself discouraged by their response or comments.

In order for anyone to succeed in their endeavor, blogger or not, a person really needs to look to like-minded individuals to wisely choose their mentors. A mentor will go out of his or her way to encourage you with your passion. If you find yourself discouraged about blogging or any other passion, it may be a sign you need to surround yourself around like-minded individuals and a mentor. If blogging is your passion then a blogging mentor will really benefit you mentally.
